Well as I mentioned in my last post, I have been quite busy both at work and with family over the holidays, and because of this, I have not had hardly any time to write.  Subsequently, The honorable mentions for December 2013 are all the interesting articles I found throughout the month.  There was some very interesting things that happened in science in December, much of which came in the field or astronomy.  In addition, there was some interesting news regarding more revelations in the Edward Snowden / NSA spying scandal that was also a bit tech related.  Let's hope that I get the chance to write about more of the interesting news I find in January.

After a couple very busy months with the holidays, work, and family, I finally have time again to write.  For those who are following me, I am sorry that I have been unable to write more recently as there has been quite a bit of science and technology stories in the news as of late.  My hope is that I can write more about the topics that interest me while also adding my personal and professional touch to them.

I have been quite busy both at home and at work, and as it might be apparent, I have not been able to write as much as I would have liked to.  I even missed last month's Honorable Mentions, and because of that I am combining October with November.  Because of my busy schedule I was not able to collect as many interesting articles as I normally do, so this post will be relatively brief, but hopefully future months will be more robust.

It has been about two months now, and my family's plan to eat more meals at home is going well.  I mentioned a few weeks ago that we decided to try and simplify the process of cooking at home (due to the limited lime both of us have trying to care for our ten-month old son) by using our slow cooker more.

A couple weeks ago I ran into a strange, and still unsolved problem with my dishwasher leaking.  At first I thought it was the dishwasher itself, but as it turned out, the steel-braided water line was leaking, and from multiple pinholes on various sections of the five foot tube.

NOTE: I apologize if this post rambles or is a bit disjointed.  This is a collection of thoughts and ideas that have been mulling around my head for a while and I wanted to get them out.  I hope that it is not too confusing to understand what I am trying to say.

One argument I hear from people who oppose nuclear power is that all government subsidies supporting nuclear power should be dropped, because, like coal and oil, nuclear power is a mature technology.

When I heard about Aviate Launcher for Android being released in closed beta a few weeks ago, I was very excited, especially after reading the reviews that described it as the Google Now Launcher (A launcher is the home user interface you use to select apps and display widgets).  At the time, I was still using my old phone, not yet having upgraded to something more usable in the Moto X, so I didn't have Google Now at all.

For the past few years, Microsoft has been hard at work developing and distributing Windows 8 to the world, on smartphones, tablets, and conventional PCs.  The concept is admirable: develop a single (or nearly single) operating system and user interface that works across all computing devices, allowing users of any type of computing system to easily incorporate those devices into their lives.  In theory, this plan is brilliant.

I am somewhat of a gamer.  Life tends to limit the time I have to play, but when I have some free time, I'd usually rather be playing a video game than watching television.  That being said, I am not a mobile gamer.  Actually, I generally dislike the whole idea.

As I mentioned in quite some detail a little while back, I am fed up with my current Android phone, a nearly three-year old (by design, 1.5 years by physical age) Samsung Infuse 4G, and I am shopping for a new one.  The phone regularly froze, restarted, and crashed pretty much right out of the box, and only rooting the phone has made it remotely usable.  Well, I should really say I was fed up with my phone, because last week, my wife and I finally pulled the trigger and ordered two new phones.
